Paula Jewell Mollahan

Obituary

Paula Jewell Mollahan died August 9, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She was 72.

A private graveside service was held August 11, 2009 at Cliffside Cemetery in Sandy. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Information about that service can be obtained by request at hagensangels@yahoo.com.

She was born to Paul E. and Ruth (Godfrey) Tucker on October 25, 1936 in Caldwell, Idaho. The family moved to Portland when she was about 5 years old. Paula was raised in the Portland area where she received her education graduating from Gresham High School in 1955.

She was married to Walter A. Schmitt on October 29, 1954. They started their family in Gresham and Paula kept very busy raising 7 children. She and Walter were later divorced. Paula married Larry O. Mollahan in 1975. They were divorced in 1978.

Paula worked at many jobs over the years. She was a waitress at several restaurants in Gresham including D’s In & Out, The Chalet, Sizzler and the Truffle Hunter. She also worked as a laborer at Reynolds Metals and then in a print shop for a while. She was finally able to retire in 1998 and at that point started doing what she really loved: being the caregiver for several of her grandchildren. She was their “granny-nanny”.

She was a member of Aims Community Church serving in music ministry playing the organ. She enjoyed crafts and crocheting as well as reading and gardening. One of her favorite things to do was to attend as many of her grandchildrens’ sporting events as possible. She was their biggest fan.

Special thanks go out to Sue, Becky, Lauren, Priscilla and nurse Kathy. Your care and compassion was greatly appreciated.

Paula is survived by her sons; Timothy Schmitt of Sandy, Nathan and Stephanie Schmitt, Joseph and Deanna Schmitt of Gresham; daughter Elizabeth and Wayne Hagen of Roseburg; son, Stephen Schmitt of Sandy; her mother Ruth Tucker of Sandy; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Contributions can be made in Paula’s name to:
