Margaret (Peggy) Eileen Henderson, 67, of Sandy, OR passed away at her home on Friday, March 12, 2010, from cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Peggy was born in Portland, OR on January 31, 1943 to Edward and Agnes Kost. She graduated from St. Mary of the Valley High School in 1961. She attended Clark College Nursing School for three years, received her nursing degree and worked as an RN from 1964 through 1972 at St. Joseph’s in Vancouver, WA and also at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Portland.
She married Roy Henderson in March of 1972 and changed careers becoming a stay at home mom. She has been a resident of Sandy for the past 34 years. Peggy, her husband Roy, and their two oldest children moved to Sandy and built their home in 1976. Later Peggy worked for Christ the King Catholic School in Milwaukie, OR as a teacher’s aide for 13 years before her retirement.
Peggy’s faith was one of her most cherished hobbies and it was manifest in many forms; as a cantor, Eucharistic minister, choir director, Oktoberfest volunteer, and religious education assistant at St. Michael’s Parish in Sandy. Some of her other past times were taking care of her children and grandchildren, playing Bunco, making puzzles, crafting and occasionally having “tea parties”.
She is survived by her mother Agnes Kost of Portland; husband, Roy Henderson of Sandy; children, Michael Henderson of Oregon City; Anita Grassl of Sandy; Patrick Henderson of Vancouver, WA; Wendy Dees of Albany, OR; Amy Brenton of Sandy; siblings, James Kost of Milwaukie, OR; Elizabeth Martin of Portland, William Kost of Enterprise, OR; Judy Spence of LaCenter, WA; Jeanette Spliethof of Portland; John Kost of Portland; and Mary Shamrell of Vancouver, WA; and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Edward Kost in 2002.
A rosary will be held Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Sandy Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sandy on March 22, 2010 at 11a.m. There will be a potluck reception following the service. Donations can be made in Peggy’s name to St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry at St. Michael Catholic Church.
