Rachel Stone of Sandy, Oregon died at home, October 10th, 2018 at the age of 96 under the care of her family and Mt Hood Hospice.
Rachel was born on January 7th 1922 in Jameson, Missouri to Merton and Arzilla Harrell. Rachel's mother passed when she was only 2. Rachel, along with her father, her sister Wanda and brother Joesph, endured and survived the great depression. Rachel then lost her father when she was only 16.
She got married, and in 1943 relocated to Cherryville, Oregon. She had 4 children Barbara, Anna Lee, Ernest Jr and John Eacret. Rachel and her husband divorced. She then raised her 2 daughters alone, as the boys were raised by their father back in Missouri.
In 1948 she met the love of her life Kingsley Stone. On June 8th,1950 Rachel and Kingsley were married. In 1961 they had a daughter Cheryl.
Rachel was a true pioneer; hunting, fishing, gardening and canning her own food. She always helped others whenever she could and gave more than she received.
Her husband Kingsley preceded her in death on January 15,1978. Rachel also lost her daughter Anna Lee Cox to cancer in March 1988.
Rachel is survived by 4 children, Cheryl Gundersen and Barbara Hergert of Sandy Oregon and her 2 sons Earnest Jr. and John Eacret of Missouri. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, along with several great and great, great grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
To honor Rachel, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society or The American Parkinson Disease Association. A private memorial was held by the family at Willamette National Cemetery.
