In Loving Memory Of

Richard "Dick" Steffl

September 8th, 1926 - April 3rd, 2013

Obituary

Longtime Sandy resident, Dick Steffl died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in Damascus at Heritage Elder Care. He was 86.

A Graveside Service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland on Thursday April 11, 2013 at 12:00 noon.

Richard Douglas Steffl was born on September 8, 1926 in Omaha, Nebraska to Matthew and Martha (Muller) Steffl. He was raised in Omaha and received his schooling there. After graduating from high school, he furthered his education at a Community College and took correspondence classes.

In January of 1950, Dick was united in marriage to Dolores “Dee” Fabry.

On June 29, 1951 Dick entered the U.S. Navy in Great Lake, Illinois. After his honorable discharge on November 1, 1952, they moved to Oregon and made their permanent home in Sandy. Dick was employed for Wagner Mining as a machinist. Later, he owned and operated Dick’s Shop, an automotive repair shop until retiring. After retiring, he and Dee moved to their farm where they raised cattle.

Dick loved to “tinker”, doing wood work and working on his farm. He grew apples, rhubarb and took extra special care of his 18 year old cow Bonnie. He was a lifetime member of the Sandy V.F.W. Post #4273. He will be remembered by his family and close friends as a “jack of all trades” and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his nieces, Michelle Steffl-Steele, Melanie Steffl-Card, Marty Steffl- Hough , Maureen Policky and Valinda Steffl; his nephews, Michael Steffl, Tim Steffl and John Steffl and his God-Son, Shawn Burns. He is preceded in death by his wife Dee in May 2011 and his brother, Tom Steffl.
