Longtime Boring resident, Richard Weatherspoon died at his home on Thursday, October 30, 2014 of Congestive Heart Failure. He was 80.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in the chapel of Sandy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cliffside Cemetery.
Richard Lee Weatherspoon was born on August 17, 1934 in Portland to Herman and Myrtle (Crandell) Weatherspoon. He was raised in Portland and received his elementary schooling at Rose City Grade School and Buckman Grade School. After graduating from Benson High School, he began his lifelong career as a printer. He was employed at Mail Well Envelope for 21 years until retiring due to illness.
On September 1, 1978, Richard was united in marriage to Donna Gerttula in Reno, Nevada. They lived in Milwaukie for a short time prior to moving to Boring where they made their permanent home. Along with his wife Donna, they raised poultry for many years until retiring in 1992.
Richard was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed crabbing. He was active in gocart racing and avid fan of racing of any kind and held the speed record at Kemp Washington with Carting. Richard also enjoyed boating, traveling in his RV and was a snowbird in Colorado and Arizona and he also enjoyed camping. He was a member of the NW Go Cart Club and also served as President.
Surviving are his wife Donna; his daughters, Teri Dinsdale of Bull Head City, Nevada; Julie Weatherspoon of Milwaukie, Koni Issacks of Pahrump, Nevada; Carolyn Horning of Redmond, Oregon; his sons, Thomas Weatherspoon of Beavercreek, Dave Gibson of Boring and Don Gibson of Gresham; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Providence Hospice or Providence Cancer Research.
