Longtime Sandy resident, Rick Nieman died suddenly on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the age of 59.
A service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Private burial of his cremated remains will be buried at Cliffside Cemetery next to his mother.
Richard Raymond Nieman Jr. was born on February 13, 1953 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to Richard Raymond Nieman Sr. and Ruth Marcene (Stoddard) Nieman. In 1969, the family moved to Oregon and made their home in Boring and Rick completed his schooling at Sandy High School. Shortly after graduating in 1971, Rick and his father owned and operated Built Rite Construction until retiring in 2010. For the last 22 years, Rick and his companion Sharon Boyer have lived in Sandy.
Rick enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting. In his younger years when the family lived in Minnesota, he played ice hockey, collected agates on Lake Superior, hunted deer and liked snow and water skiing. Over the last several years, Rick enjoyed going to casinos.
Surviving is his father, Richard Nieman Sr. of Sandy; his sister Jean and her husband Alan Morser of Boring; his companion Sharon Boyer of Sandy and her children Marcy Duncan of Portland and Marty Boyer of Seaside and his nephew, David and his family of Denver, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his mother Ruth in 1990.
