Obituary

Longtime Sandy resident, Rick Brock died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, May 3, 2012. He was 64.

A private family graveside service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland on Friday, May 11, 2012. Following at 1:00 p.m. there will be a memorial service at East Hill Church in Gresham.

Richard Stanley Brock was born on June 28, 1947 in Tacoma, Washington. He was raised and received his schooling on McNeil Island. Shortly after graduating from high school, he pursued his advanced education until entering the Army on August 25, 1967 and served during the Vietnam War. Rick was honorably discharge on August 24, 1970 in Ft. Riley, Kansas.

On August 29, 1970, Rick married the love of his life Genalee Nystrom in Topeka, Kansas. They made their home in Topeka where Rick finished his education at Kansas University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Rick and Genalee then started their family and Rick began his career as an Engineer. He was employed with General Electric for five years prior to starting his long career with Boeing. In 1985, the family moved from Bellevue, Washington to Sandy where they made their permanent home and Rick continued his career with Boeing as a Mechanical Engineer where he was currently employed.

Rick was a faithful and devoted servant of God. He spent his life serving Christ in the community through the activities of Awana’s at Sandy Baptist Church, children’s ministries at East Hill Church, volunteering his time in children’s reading programs, the Portland Rescue Mission and the American Red Cross where he donated over 40 gallons of blood.

He was extremely devoted to his wife and family, always placing them first before his own needs. Rick’s commitment and devotion to the Lord helped build and establish the strong family unit.

Rick loved playing with his grandkids, working on cars and building models. Most recently, he was in the process of hand crafting a guitar for his granddaughter.

Surviving is his wife Genalee; his children, Shalaina Peil, Stephen Brock, Timothy Brock, Matthew Brock and Nickoleen Brock; 3 grandchildren; his siblings, Michael Brock, Sharon Brooksbank, David Brock and Marilou Gronka; He is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.
