In Loving Memory Of

Robert "Bob" Norman Boring

January 27th, 1940 - April 28th, 2018

Obituary

Robert N. (Bob) Boring passed away peacefully on April 28, 2018 in Sandy, Oregon after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 78 years old.

Bob was born in Portland, Oregon on January 27, 1940 to Willard and Frances (Adair) Boring and raised on the family farm in Boring, Oregon. He was the great-grandson of William H. Boring for whom the town of Boring was named. He graduated from Sandy Union High School in 1958 and then joined the Army Reserve, where he did a six-month tour of duty at Fort Ord, California, followed by serving in the Army Reserves. Upon returning from Fort Ord, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Glenda A. Lockling on August 21, 1959 and they resided in Gresham, Oregon until 1973 when they purchased a home in Boring.  Bob and Glenda raised two sons, Darrell and Michael.

Bob worked in service stations for Standard Oil before becoming a truck driver for Standard Oil and Chevron for 18 years.  He then drove truck for Vanport Manufacturing in Boring for 19 years while helping his father run the family farm raising beef and working on many farm and construction projects.  Bob also had a side woodworking business and built specialty cabinets and furniture for many local residents and businesses.

Bob proudly served his community in a variety of ways as his parents before him had done. Bob was a member and Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Boring, and served on the Sandy High School Board of Directors for eight years.  Bob was elected to, and served many years on, the Boring Water District Board and most recently served as a member and Board president of the Sandy Historical Society.

He recently said that he was most happy when he was either building something or being with his wife Glenda and the rest of the family. His interests in building were evident in his love for his model railroad display and for the several displays he built for the Sandy Historical Museum. He enjoyed discussing the history of the Boring and Sandy area, reading books about historical events and equipment, collecting antique tools, seeing old steam-powered mill equipment and trains, and traveling to various sites, especially if they had to do with trains or anything mechanical.

Bob was very proud of the accomplishments of his family. Bob is survived by his wife, Glenda, of 58 years; son Darrell Boring (Teresa) of Gresham, and son Michael Boring (Tracie) of Eugene; three grandchildren, Emily Boring, of Troutdale, Nicholas Boring (Michelle) of Gresham, Natalie Boring (Matt) of Portland; and one great–grandson, Gage Boring of Gresham. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Crow of Gresham, and brother Jim Boring(Janet) of Bend.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Bob’s name to the Sandy Historical Society, PO Box 652, Sandy, OR 97055.
