Bob Sandercock, died suddenly from a heart attack at his home on Sunday March 1, 2009. He was 86.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Living Way Fellowship in Sandy. Viewing will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m.
Robert D. Sandercock was born on January 5, 1923 in Portland, Oregon to Darley Wilber and Henrietta (Wiltse) Sandercock. When he was 7, the family moved to Hood River where he began his elementary education. After his father’s sudden death, his mother and siblings returned to Portland.
On June 28, 1943, Bob entered the U.S. Navy. While on leave, he was married to Donna Teninty on July 27, 1943 in Vancouver, Washington. Donna made her home in Portland, as Bob completed his military assignment. After his honorable discharge on November 27, 1945, he joined his family in Portland. The family later moved to Sandy where Bob pursued his career in construction and was self employed as owner and operator in the dump trucking business. He later joined the 701 Operating Engineers Union, working on The Dalles and John Day Dam’s. The family later moved to The Dalles as Bob continued his career in construction. They returned to Sandy in 1970, where Bob worked as a heavy duty mechanic for Westwood Construction in Portland until retiring in the early 1980’s. In 1991, Bob moved to Beavercreek and made his home.
Surviving is his wife Donna; daughter Gail Parks; sons, Dan and Dennis Sandercock all of Sandy, and his son Derrill Sandercock of Portland; his brother, Herb Sandercock of Sandy and Jack Sanders of California; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Bob was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting, doing remodeling projects, gardening roses, working in his yard and seeing that his lawn represented something close to a golf course. His family said that he was a “jack of all trades”.
