Longtime Rockwood area resident, Bob Niska died peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2013. He was 89.
A Memorial Service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church on Saturday December 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
Robert Emil Niska was born on May 2, 1924 in Becker, Minnesota to Emil and Hilda Niska, one of 11 children. He was raised in the countryside of Minnesota and went to school there. Bob did farm work and logging in Minnesota until moving to Portland to work in the shipyards.
On November 4, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary Mitchell. They made their home in Portland where they raised their family and Bob was employed at Fiberboard and later at Graphic Arts until retiring.
Bob enjoyed bowling, golfing and woodworking. After retirement, Bob and Mary traveled in their R.V.
Surviving are his sons, Robert, Gregory and Steven Niska; 2 brothers, Nillerd and Howard Niska, 1 sister; Dorothy Moody; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
