Obituary

Robert Morris Jones was born June 8,1926 in Oceanside California to Calazanz and Thelma Jones. He had two siblings, an older brother Joseph and younger brother Gilbert. During the early years the three brothers attended boarding school at the San Luis Rey Mission.

In Robert’s adolescence years the family moved to Culver City California to be near the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, where his father worked as an accountant and where Robert eventually worked building motion picture stage sets. Robert first attended Saint Augustine Catholic school,  graduated from Hamilton High School and subsequently at seventeen years of age joined the army air force during World War II. Robert received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, WWII Victory medal and Army of Occupation medal.

On returning home after the war Robert eventually met and married Tomaseen Elizabeth McElwee in Culver City California. Soon after they moved to the nearby San Fernando Valley to buy their first home, where they raised all four of their children. During the years of raising their children Robert was a technical writer and editor in defense and aerospace, requiring top secret clearance on many projects including doing projects on the Apollo mission. Through all the years of providing for his family Robert also achieved three master degrees at Loyola University, taught for 10 years at the Los Angeles city schools and took the role of either actor or producer or director in multiple plays that ran in various little theater groups.

After their children were grown Robert and Tomaseen moved to Gilbert Arizona. It was there that Robert retired from Hughes Aircraft/Boeing, where he had been the technical writer and editor on many projects, his proudest the Apache Helicopter.

In Robert and Tomaseen’s early retirement years they moved to Eagle Creek Oregon, where they owned land since 1972. in addition to Robert aspiring and tutoring his children and grandchildren in education, he was a simple farmer until Tomaseen his wife of fifty-four years  passed way in 2003.

Following the passing of his wife Tomaseen Robert moved back to Southern California, where he was able to pass the law school admissions test at the age of 78 and in due course attended one year at the Ventura School of Law.

Robert eventually moved back to Eagle Creek Oregon. During his last years Robert not only enjoyed many senior trips and made many dear friends, he practiced and studied to fine-tune his guitar and piano skills and eventually joined a band originating out of the Sandy senior Center known as the Silvertones.

Robert died June 3, 2018 in Happy Valley Oregon, he is survived by his four children Yvonne, Melinda, Roberta and Robert, his nine grandchildren Jessica, Aran, Emily, Caine, Leah, Ashley, Jessica Lee, Mallorie and Cory, his nine great grandchildren Keegan, Mason, Azure, Sadie, Julian, Meliyah, Lincoln, Farah and Kingston. Robert is also survived by Shannon and Jake who have joined the legacy of the Jones family.
