Sandy resident, Bob Weygandt died on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at his daughter and son in law’s home at the age of 94.
A funeral service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.
Robert Sevey Weygandt was born on November 16, 1914 in Portland where he was raised and received his schooling. He graduated from Jefferson High School and then moved to California where he worked as a Vaudeville Acrobat. A few years later, Bob returned to Portland where he met and later married Charlotte Wescott in 1935. They made their home in Portland where Bob was employed as a cook and they began their family. In 1940, Bob began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring in 1972, Bob and his wife moved to Kelso, Washington where they owned and operated Char’s Vista Gas Station and Grocery Store. Three years later, they sold the business and moved to Vancouver. Bob then worked as a school bus driver and a pilot car driver until 1983, when he truly retired at the age of 69 and moved to Gresham. In 1986, Bob and Charlotte moved to Sandy to live near their daughter and son in law and make their permanent home.
Bob was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling in their travel trailer, gardening and was a member of the Hayden Island Yacht Club for over 20 years.
Surviving is his daughter and son in law, Kit and Rich Spitzengel of Sandy; 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife Char whom he loved and cherished even after her passing in 1996, his son Gary, his daughter, Murla and his grandson, Richard Jr.
