Eagle Creek resident, Bob Walter died on Friday, December 5, 2008 at Oregon Health Science University after a hard fought battle with liver disease and lymphoma.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Pentecostal Church of God in Portland located at 6030 SE 136th. A reception will immediately follow the service then a committal service with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Robert Wayne Walter was born on August 21, 1953 in Portland to Clarence and Norma (Tamerius) Walter. He was raised and received his elementary and high school education in Portland. Shortly after graduating from David Douglas High School, he entered the U.S. Navy on October 28, 1971 where he trained to be a machinist and served on the USS Monroe, a submarine stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was honorably discharged on August 25, 1975 and returned to Portland where he began his career as a machinist at Boeing.
In 1983, Bob was united in marriage to Susan Gennette. They made their home in Portland where they began their family and Bob pursued his career. It was in 1987, that they moved to Eagle Creek where they raised their daughters and made their permanent home. In 2004, Bob received a liver transplant, giving him better quality of life for 4 years in which he was able to spend with his family and friends. He was a courageous man and fought a long battle.
Bob enjoyed spending time outdoors working on their property, camping, fishing, gold mining and playing with their dogs.
Surviving is his wife Susan; his daughters Kimberly and Angela Walter both of Eagle Creek; his granddaughter Olivia also of Eagle Creek; his parents, Clarence and Norma Walter of Portland; his brother, Donald Walter of Damascus; his sister, Pamela Kuhn of Austin, Texas and a large extended family.
