Sandy resident Roland Walter Bachler, 73, died suddenly of a massive heart attack at Okanagan Lake in British Columbia, Canada while visiting his family.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Sandy Funeral Home.
Roland was born February 22, 1939 in Saanen, Switzerland. He was raised and received his education there. In 1960 he emigrated to Canada where he worked as a butcher and farmer. In the early 1980’s he came to the United States and worked as a logger. He met Martha Reckmann and they were married October 12, 1985 in Nevada. They settled in the Boring/Sandy area where Roland continued working in the woods until 1993 when he was injured. After his recovery he worked for U.S. Metals as a painter until his retirement.
Roland enjoyed skiing and raising chickens, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Martha of Boring; his four sons, Andreas, Markus, Lorenz and Konrad all of BC Canada; his brother, Samuel of Oescheite, Switzerland; sister, Liselotte of Gstaad, Switzerland and 8 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Warner and sister Margaret Zbaren.
