Former Boring resident, Ross Tunnell died in Portland on Friday, November 27, 2009. He was 68.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Community Church in Boring.
Ross Augustus Tunnell III was born on May 30, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to Ross and Alice (Boss) Tunnell. The family made their home in Baldwin Park where he began he began his elementary schooling. They later moved to Glendale, California where Ross graduated from high school and met his future wife Parmelee.
On August 12, 1961 Ross was united in marriage to Parmelee Harris in Glendale, California. They moved to Columbia, Missouri where Ross furthered his education at the University of Missouri, receiving his Bachelor’s in Economics.
In 1966, Ross and his family moved to Portland. Ross pursued his studies at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary where he received his Masters of Divinity and Masters of Theology. After receiving his first degree in 1969, he continued teaching at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary for six years. In 1976 the family moved to Damascus where Ross was the Pastor of family ministries at Damascus Community Church. At this same time, Ross started Damascus Counseling Center which was an outreach to the community for over 10 years. In 1989, he became self employed doing counseling and desk top publishing. In June of this year, Ross and his wife moved to Gresham and made their home.
Ross is survived by his wife, Parmelee of 48 years of Gresham; his son Mark Tunnell of Puyallup, Washington, Matthew Tunnell of Vancouver, Washington, Ross Tunnell IIII of Beaverton and Andrew Tunnell of College Park, Maryland; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents.
