Longtime Sandy resident, Roxie Burns died on Monday, November 19, 2012. She was 97.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. A viewing will be held at Sandy Funeral Home prior to the service from 10:00 until 1:00PM.
She was born, Roxie Elizabeth McCormick on February 28, 1915 to James and Carrie (Schmitz) McCormick in Haines, Oregon. As a young girl, the family moved to Sandy where Roxie was raised and received her schooling. After high school, she furthered her education at Palmer School of Business and Writing College.
In 1933, Roxie was married to Eldon Mills. They made their home in Sandy and began their family. Besides caring for her daughter Dolores, she worked at Scales Mercantile and Dr. Nohren’s office as a receptionist. Roxie and Eldon were later divorced.
Roxie remained in Sandy and was later re-married to LeRoy “Flip” Burns on July 3, 1954 in Stevenson, Washington. They had one son together, Shawn. Roxie continued her employment at Dr. Nohren’s office and later worked at Ogden Variety.
Surviving is her daughter, Dolores Yarborough; her son, Shawn Burns and her brother, Jim McCormick all of Sandy; 4 grandchildren, Michael, Carol, Jennifer and Mattie; She is preceded in death by her husband Flip in 1997 and her grandson, Jim Craig in 2008.
