Roy Patrick Henderson, 72, of Tualatin, OR. passed away at his home on April 13, 2016 after a courageous fight against glioblastoma multiforme. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and many family members.
Roy was born in Portland, OR. on March 17, 1944 to Walt Henderson and Alice Beebe. He graduated from North Catholic High School in 1962.
He enlisted in the Air force and was then stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He worked as an airplane mechanic.
Roy married Margaret (Peggy) Kost in March of 1972. They soon after built a home in Sandy, OR. and raised their 5 children there until Peggy passed away in March of 2010.
He worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company as a utility lineman for 26 years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Michaels Parish in Sandy, OR. and most recent, Resurrection Catholic Parish in Tualatin, OR.
Roy was a servant of happiness and helping hands. He volunteered his time and many skills throughout his life to numerous family and friends, for church events, at the Collin’s Retreat Center in Eagle Creek, OR., for Habitat for Humanity and the United Methodist Church Camp in Wallowa, OR. He was also actively involved with both the Marriage Encounter and Engaged Encounter groups.
In December 2010 he married Nona Rapp Normand, which blended his family to include 5 more children and 11 more grandchildren.
Roy is survived by his brother, Eugene Ray Henderson (Dottie); his wife, Nona Henderson, and his children; Barb McCloskey (Dave), Michael Henderson (Jacqueline), Anita Grassl (Gerald), Patrick Henderson (Gretchen), Wendy Dees, Amy Yeager (Glenn), and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
A viewing will be held at Sandy Funeral Home Friday April 22, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Parish located at 21060 SW Stafford Road in Tualatin. A viewing will be prior to mass starting at 10:00. There will be a celebration of life luncheon following service.
A private burial will be held at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland.
