Sandy resident, Ruby A. Eliason, 89, passed away on October 12, 2018 at Hopewell House with her family by her side.
Ruby was born May 22, 1929 in Flavel, Oregon. She graduated from Warrenton High School in 1947.
Ruby was known for being a hard worker and provider for her family. She worked as a commercial clam digger alongside her father, John Yeager. She picked crab at Point Adams and Seaside clam Canneries. As a young mother she picked cones in the woods and berries in the fields. She was a supervisor at Iseli’s nursery where she often came to work early to enjoy the quiet. Ruby was a crafter and her stuffed animals, doilies and crocheted hats were a favorite at festivals and craft shows.
Ruby traveled to Peru to buy arts and crafts for her sales over 40 times. She loved Peruvian culture and food and took family members with her on those trips. Her last buying trip was in 2015.
Ruby had many interests. She bowled in league for 25 years. She was an avid Square Dancer with her husband, Robert Orcutt and they danced at the Manzanita Pine Grove Community Center. Ruby loved sewing, crocheting, canning, farming, baking, tax preparation and gardening. She also volunteered as a Bluebird and 4H leader. She was a wonderful mother and made a welcoming and loving home for her children.
Ruby was a devoted tennis fan and rarely missed a match. She was teased by family that Nadal was her “boyfriend” because he was her longtime favorite.
Survivors include her children, Dan Bash of Nehalem, Margaret Bales of Boring, Julie Dykes of Sandy, Annie Felizardo of Tacoma, Donna Osorio of Gresham, Becky Jewell of Sandy and Robin Jacobson of Sherwood, as well as 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
