Longtime Sandy resident Ruth Tucker left her earthly home, with her grandson Stephen at her side, to pass on to heaven October 18, 2011 at the age of 99.
A Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 5th, 2011 at Orient Drive Baptist Church with a luncheon to follow.
Ruth was born April 25, 1912 in Eagle, Idaho to Joseph H. and Gertrude F. (Kincaid) Godfrey.
She was raised in the Eagle/ Middleton/Caldwell area of Idaho where she received her schooling. She graduated from high school in 1930.
After graduation she took a job at the local telephone company in Caldwell where her sister worked and they shared an apartment. After some time she met a young man by the name of Paul Edgar Tucker who was attending college in Caldwell. The couple was married in Vale, Oregon on October 1, 1932. They lived in Caldwell where they started their family.
After Paul completed his schooling the family moved to Kentucky for a short time. They moved again from there to Camas, Washington at the beginning of WWII and then over to Oregon in 1943 when they settled in Gresham. In 1974 they made their permanent home in Sandy.
Ruth enjoyed being a homemaker. She loved cooking and baking, crocheting and flower arranging. She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining and was a “people person”. She treasured the memories made over the years as her family grew with the addition of grandchildren and then great grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her son, Walter Tucker (Sally) of Gresham; 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter Paula Mollahan and grandson David Schmitt.
