In Loving Memory Of

Ruth Lavonne Wixom Mickelson

March 8th, 1952 - November 13th, 2018

Obituary

Ruth Lavonne Wixom was born to Esther (Bratton) and Norval (Ellis) Wixom in Missoula, MT on March 8, 1952. Ruth was the first of seven children.  She graduated from high school in Milton-Freewater, OR, and attended Anderson College in Anderson, IN. She met Carl Mickelson while working as a server at the Corner Café, and they married at the Community Church of God in Milton-Freewater on June 9, 1973. The couple moved to Roseburg, OR, where they welcomed their first son, Scott in 1974.

The family relocated to Boring, OR in 1978.  In 1983, they completed their family with their second son, Andrew.  Throughout the 40 years she lived in the family home, Ruth (affectionately known as Ruthie) created memories with family and friends alike.  Ruthie’s life was filled with a strong faith in God, generosity, creativity, and love of family and friends.  She did not fear mortality, but looked forward to her heavenly home, anticipating a reunion beyond all others.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Mickelson, and her brother David Wixom. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Scott and Ashley Mickelson of Merrill, OR and Andrew and Melissa Mickelson of Boring, OR, her two grandchildren Payton “PJ” and Eva, with whom she had a special relationship, and siblings:  Kay Tira of Minden, NE; Barbara Pomeroy of Van Buren, IN; Jeannie Wixom of Boring, OR; Mary Jamieson of Longview, WA; and Don Wixom of Nampa, ID.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

I never had the privilege of meeting Ruthie, however my mom and brother both deceased met her at the Family Reunion at Oakville Iowa. Mom enjoyed meeting her and I loved reading all of the articles in the Bratton Bulletin that Ruthie so tirelessly worked on every month. I know she is in a better place and hopefully my mom and brother get to see her again with the rest of our Angels. RIP Ruthie and I know Carl was there waiting for you with OPEN ARMS. My condolences to all of the family on both sides. Stephen Bratton (Arthur Bratton grandson)
We were neighbors forty years ago and our sons played together alot. Wonderful kind woman. Brenda Sue VanWormer

Ruthie was a very special part of my life. We "met" on line playing Hoyle Wordox. I was blessed to see her in person at the Denver Airport before security was as strong and to visit her in OR three times. She will always have a place in my heart. My sympathy and prayers for God's comfort to the entire family. Paulette George
