Former Sandy resident, Ruth Tabor died at a Foster Care Home in Portland on Monday, December 29, 2008 at the age of 90. Up until the last few months, Ruth was living on her own.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was born, Ruth Olive Butts on April 14, 1918 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Harry and Vera Butts. Shortly after graduating from high school, Ruth moved to Oregon and made her home in Portland where she and worked various jobs. She later owned and operated Miss Ruth’s Hair Salon in Portland until retiring.
In 1957, Ruth was married to Donald Tabor in Stevenson, Washington. They made their home in Portland until 1973, when they moved to Sandy and built their home. Don died of a sudden heart attack in September of 1989. Ruth remained in Sandy for a short time and then moved to Gresham and made her permanent home.
Mrs. Tabor enjoyed doing ceramics, crocheting, working in her yard and was an avid swimmer.
Surviving is her son, Donald Sanders of Vancouver, Washington; her daughter, Beverly Miller of La Pine; her sister, Evelyn Maxwell of Beaverton; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Providence Hospice.
