Samantha Rae Smeltzer was born October 30, 1981 in Carthage N.Y. to Dwayne and Rose (Girtz) Smeltzer. The family moved to Sandy, Oregon in 1982.
Sam, as she was known to her friends, learned Karate at the Christian Karate School in Sandy achieving black belt status. Sam was well known for her artistic ability and would never be more then an arms length away from a pencil. Samantha graduated from Sandy High School in 2000.
Sam gave birth to twin girls (Macy and Madalynn) in 200I. She enjoyed children and ran a small child care service from her home. Sam married Joshua R. Stevens on January 7, 2003 and moved to Bremerton Washington. Their son, Elijah was born on August 10, 2006.
In July of 2007, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Sam held her head high and fought hard. Even in the face certain death, Sam was a beacon of light to her faith, her family, and her friends. All through her sickness Sam would smile and trust in the Lord to give her the strength necessary to carry on. In January 2009 she moved back to Sandy to be closer to her family and friends during her final months.
