Sandy resident, Steven M. Colligan, passed away peacefully in his home on March 18, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 67.
A Graveside Service was held at Willamette National Cemetery with Military Honors on March 21st, 2013. A celebration of life followed at the Gresham Elks Lodge on March 22nd, 2013.
Steven M. Colligan was born on January 30th, 1946 in Houston, Texas to Martin T. Colligan and Mary Lael Morley. He was the eldest of three children. The family moved to Portland in 1950. In 1960 he was accepted to Benson Polytechnic High School and graduated in 1964. He had an inventive mind and chose to attend Oregon State University where he majored in Chemistry. In 1966 he was drafted into the Army but chose to enlist in the Marine Corps. He fought in Vietnam for two tours and was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned home that same year. On November 22nd, 1969 he married Diane Marie Fuller. They made their home in the Parkrose area and raised a family. In 2006 the couple moved to Sandy, Oregon.
In 1970, Steve was hired by Lumber Systems to design sawmill equipment and then hired by Hydra-Power Systems, Inc. in 2000. He loved building, designing and creating but his favorite pleasure was spending time with those around him. He was never in need of a good story or someone to share it with.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane; son, Michael, daughter, Cheryl, daughter in law, Seanna, son in law, Jeremy and 6 grandchildren; Jessica, Jacob, Jordyn, Ava, Ireland and newborn Caleb.
