Longtime Sandy resident, Thelma Krum died at her home with her family by her side on Wednesday September 19, 2012. She was 94.
A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of Sandy Funeral Home on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park.
She was born, Thelma Fay Chamberlain to Edward and Clara Chamberlain in Buhl, Idaho. She began her schooling in Buhl and at the age of 12, the family moved to Oregon and they made their home in Northeast Portland. Shortly after graduating from Jefferson High School, she attended business school. Thelma later became a secretary and said that she roller skated to work when she could as the weather permitted.
On December 27, 1941 Thelma was united in marriage to Thomas “Cliff” Krum at Thelma’s parent’s home in Portland. They made their home in Portland and began their family and resided there until 1948 when they moved to Pendleton due to Cliff’s aviation business. In 1953, Cliff, Thelma and their 3 sons returned to Portland and lived in the original home that they first lived in. Six years later, they moved to Sandy and made their home next to Rich’s Airport near Oral Hull Foundation For The Blind.
Mrs. Krum loved flowers and gardening. She grew Dahlia’s so tall that she was not able to be seen in her garden. She enjoyed spending time outdoors cross country skiing, hiking and roller skating. She also enjoyed knitting and was a member of a knitting club in Portland. She was also currently a member of the Estacada Presbyterian Church and prior to that was a longtime member of the Sandy Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her sons Dale and Clifford Krum both of Portland; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Cliff in 2001 and her son Glenn in 1989.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Oral Hull Foundation For The Blind.
