Tom Jackson died in Welches of natural causes on May 20, 2013.
Born in Atlanta and raised in La Grange, Georgia. Tom taught school in California and later worked as a pipe engineer on the Alaska pipeline before turning his red Camaro toward a new life in Oregon.
Tome made the mountain his home for a quarter century retiring as the Night Auditor at Timberline Lodge in 2010 after 22 years. A bonsai enthusiast since 2000, he was a long-time member of the Bonsai Society of Portland and delighted in helping others develop their skills.
Trusted friend, teacher and mentor, this one-time theology student ministered to a grateful and growing network of clients on the mountain as a house sitter, pet sitter, and plant tender. He was a gentleman with an iron-clad sense of honor, always giving more than he received.
Tom is survived by his dear companion, Beverly Hoffmeister of Sandy, his Aunt Nancy Alford of La Grange, Georgia, Cousin Timothy Alford (Peggy) of Columbia, South Carolina and a host of friends who loved him.
Arrangements for a gathering to celebrate Tom’s life are pending.
