Timothy Stagich, retired author, teacher and non-profit executive, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Hopewell House in Portland. He was 65. He was the loving husband of “Kay” Chikako Stagich (deceased) and dedicated advocate for educational reform and improved collaborative leadership in education, business and government.
Tim Stagich was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on March 24, 1950. He loved sports, especially baseball and basketball and was an All-State and All-County baseball player in high school. In college, he concentrated on his studies and went on to earn a Masters Degree in Education from Xavier University. After college, Tim worked in Community Relations for City Government and as Executive Director for the Better Business Bureau. After teaching for five years in Japan where he met his wife Kay, Tim and Kay married and moved to Hawaii where he earned a Ph.D. in Education.
Tim loved community work where he was an advocate for human rights, consumer rights and educational reform. His first book on Collaborative Leadership was focused on how people could work together better in business, education and government.
Tim is survived by his two stepchildren, Hirohiko and Yoko who live in Japan and two sisters, Judith Gervais and Catherine Mattfield as well as his nieces, Lisa, Susan, Jessica and Elizabeth and nephew Michael.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
