Sandy resident Treva Ann Rigby, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 25.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sandy.
Treva was born April 27,1927 to Russell and Mamie (Knapp) Trautwein. She attended Pomona High School until her junior year, when she and her parents moved to Eugene and she graduated from high school there in 1945. Treva then took a job with Western Union and earned a degree as a telegraph communications operator from its course in Santa Cruz, CA. After that she worked as a Western Union night manager in Coos Bay.
On October 27, 1945, she married Floyd Rigby, the son of a neighbor in Eugene. After Floyd’s discharge from the Navy, they lived in Vanport until the 1948 flood, when they lost most of their belongings. They then settled in Southeast Portland.
Treva worked for Western Union in Portland until Floyd’s work took them to Kennewick, WA. Treva continued her work for Western Union, and she held several other jobs, including at a school book publishing company, as a school bus driver and finally for Battelle Memorial Laboratories in Richland, where she worked her way up from the typing pool to a buyer. She also took various courses at Columbia Basin community College.
As a child, Treva was a tomboy and enjoyed football, softball, swimming and tennis. She played the piano, clarinet and drums in school, and she was active with her church choir and youth group. On March 27, 1959, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Floyd remarried on Aug. 11, 1960, in the Los Angeles temple.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Ronald Rigby; and daughter, Charlotte Bonner.
Survivors include her sons, R. Paul Rigby of Oregon City and Rick Rigby of Portland; daughter, Bette Bench of Sandy; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
