In Loving Memory Of

Ulrick "Ric" Frederick Buhler

July 1st, 1965 - November 24th, 2021

Obituary

Ulrick Frederick (Ric) Buhler passed away in his home in Othello, Washington on Wednesday November 24, 2021.

Born in Portland, Oregon on July 1, 1965.

Ric was raised on his family’s farm in Sandy, Oregon where he attended Sandy High School. He later attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, and the BYU London Center. He earned two master’s Degrees at Portland State University for Business and Education.

He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Uruguay Montevideo Mission from January 1985 to December 1986.

After the tragedy of September 11, 2001, Ric decided to change his career from business to education because he wanted to contribute to our nation by helping the next generation. Throughout his teaching career, he taught history, business/marketing, and computer applications to middle school, high school, and community college students. Of all the lessons he taught, he truly believed that by studying history we not only gain insight of our future but also ourselves.

Ric had a great sense of adventure and loved to travel as much as possible. His adventures took him through the Swiss Alps, performing in the opera houses of Vienna, pyramids of Egypt, the holy city of Jerusalem, behind the Iron Curtain in the Soviet Union, the land of the rising sun (Japan), the fjords of Norway, the homes of the US Founding Fathers, white-water rafting down the Grand Canyon, and many other destinations.

As much as Ric loved to travel, his greatest love was for his family. He loved to find as many ways to spend as much time as possible with his family. Whenever the family would gather, they would be enlightened by his knowledge, experience, and passion. Even with complete strangers, he would engage in conversations that would make you believe they were friends for years. He enjoyed documenting his family’s history as much as he loved creating new experiences – helping to preserve cherished memories and inspiring lessons.

Predeceased by his father, Elmer B. Buhler, his mother, Pauline E. Buhler, and his brother Stanley E. Buhler. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Maria Anne Hana Buhler and Zachary Hitoshi Buhler, his brother James Buhler, his sister Rebecca Gasso, along with his nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends across the world.

I'll miss my cousin Ric. I had a chance to accompany him occasionally when he was down here at BYU. He's a talented fellow who I'm sure will continue to help build the Kingdom. Thanks everyone also for a great funeral service. MAX BUHLER

wow, so so sorry, l can't believe Ric left us so soon, we love him and wish we could have got to know him better, they came to our house in Highlad enough that we got to know them as kids, l lost my husband on June 15th suddenly with no warning and it just breaks my heart for you to be going through this, may you find comfort soon and know that he is still with you, you just can't see him Rosanne Buhler Orgill
I loved to hear Ric sing "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" that he did at Stanley's funeral and Pauline's funeral. I love the history he provided in Paul Day's website too.

We love your family!
Lynn Day
