Sandy resident, Violet Markwell died at a Portland hospital on June 27, 2011. She was 89.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 pm, on Thursday, June 30, at Sandy Funeral Home. Private cremation will follow.
She was born Violet Myreath Castor in Seminole, Oklahoma to Earl Wayne and Elma (Clagg) Castor on December 6, 1921. She was raised in Oklahoma and Texas where she received her education.
On August 7, 1939 she was married to Ernest Markwell in Shawnee, Oklahoma. They lived in Seminole where they began their family and in 1941, moved to California where her husband worked in the ship yards during WW II. They remained in California until 1954, when moving to make their home in the Sandy & Boring areas.
Violet was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, bowling and her grandchildren.
Her husband, Ernest preceded her in death in 2004. Surviving are her sons, Charles Markwell of Sandy, Johnny Markwell of Boring and Jimmy Markwell of Beavercreek; daughters: Wanda Michael of Boring, Sandra Gray and Elma Markwell, both of Sandy; brother, Elmer Castor of Bandera, Texas; sister Frankie Surface of Bakersfield, California; 18 grandchilren, 28 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by 1 grandson and 1 great grandson.
