Lake Oswego resident, Virginia Johnston died in Portland on Monday, December 21, 2009. She was 85.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:00 noon. Inurnment will follow at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.
She was born, Virginia Watts on May 10, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia to Harvey and Lucy (Grist) Watts. She was raised in Atlanta and received her schooling there.
In 1970, Virginia and her children moved to Oregon and made their home in Portland. At the age of 69, Virginia met her soul mate, Kenny Becker. They lived in Beaverton where they worked together in making baskets and dried flower arrangements. Virginia also was a poet and writer. In 1997, Kenny preceded her in death. Virginia then moved to Lake Oswego to live with her daughter Scarlet.
Viriginia loved flowers, music and poetry. She suffered with Alzheimer’s for the last 10 years of her life, but she had incredible strength, was courageous, treasuring life each day.
Surviving are her daughters, Jestine Brown-Cline of Beaverton, Sharon Johnston of Portland and Scarlet Angela-Graham of Lake Oswego; her son, Luke Johnston of Vancouver, Washington; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
