Longtime Sandy resident, Vivian Minnick died suddenly at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital on Monday, November 14, 2011. She was 87.
A graveside service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on November 28th at 11:00 a.m.
She was born, Vivian Roselle Fetsch to Nicholes and Marie (Freeman) Fetsch on September 8, 1924 in Union Mills, Washington. Vivian’s father was a saw filer and due to his employment, the family traveled throughout Washington State living in various towns. After graduating from Hoquium High School she worked near Seattle for Boeing as a Rivet Bucker. Seattle. She later moved to Sweet Home and lived with her parents. Vivian remained in Sweet Home where she began working as a dental assistant.
She later moved to Portland where she continued her work in the dental field.
In 1955, Vivian met her future husband Jimmie Minnick. One year later, they were married on September 8, 1956 in Stevenson, Washington. They made their home in Portland where they resided until 1968 when they moved to Sandy, built their home and raised their family. In 1976, she went to work at Heidi’s in Boring until retiring in 1986.
Vivian enjoyed working in her yard and raising flowers. She, along with her husband raised beef cattle, all which had a name. Vivian and Jimmie were very active with their children in their music and 4-H activities.
Vivian loved spending time outdoors, camping and fishing, especially in various lakes in the area, Lake Billy Chinook being her favorite. Not only did they enjoy fishing together, but canning the fish that they caught. Later in life, Vivian and Jimmie enjoyed going to Casinos and playing bingo. Her family was of utmost importance to her and stood beside her even to her dying day.
Surviving is her husband of 55 years, Jimmie; her daughter, Cheryl Warren of Vancouver, Washington and Jan Gerard of Boring; her son, Kenny Minnick also of Boring; her sister, Betty Hutton of Warren, Oregon; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
