Longtime Sandy resident, William “Bill” Wardy died suddenly at his home in Sandy on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. He was 81.
William Albert Wardy Jr. was born on February 4, 1938 to William and Vera (Rock) Wardy in Glendale, California. He began his lifelong career as a mechanic in California. He was employed with Greyhound, Sierra Bus Line and A/C Transit.
In 1973, Bill moved to Oregon and made his home in Sandy. He was employed at Tri-Met in Portland as a mechanic and retired after 29 years with them.
Bill was actively involved in the Sandy area community. He was a longtime member of the Sandy Optimist Club for 30 years. He served as President, Secretary/Treasurer and a board member. He worked on bikes for kids (over 300) and rebuilt them and donated to the Kiwanis Christmas Basket program. Bill served on the board and was actively involved in the Sandy Soap Box Derby for many years. He was also a member of the Kam Busters Car Club of San Francisco and Route 26 Cruisers in Sandy. While living in California, Bill was active and volunteered his time with Half- Moon Bay Drag Strip and Coati Drag Strip.
Surviving is his wife Lois, his children, Marti Dobbs, Christina Roling and William O. Wardy; his step children, Brian Stamm, Byron and Heidi Stamm, Barry Fretz Jr. and Jack Stamm; his brother, John Wardy, his sister, Janie Desgroseilliers and Cheryl Christman; his grandchildren, Athena Wardy, Candice and Sara Dobbs, Patty Roling, Nick Wharton, Logan, Danielle and Stephanie Stamm, Zach, Emma and David Stamm. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years.
