Long time Sandy resident William “Bill” Rodden died at his home due to complications from cancer on Saturday Nov. 26, 2011. He was 77.
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held on December 10, at 1:00 p.m. at his son Bob’s home in Sandy. Private inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
William Roy Rodden was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on June 20, 1934 to Roy C. and Kay (Hicksenhiser) Rodden. He was raised in the Chicago area and graduated from Lane Tech High School. After graduation Bill entered the U. S. Navy. While serving his country he received training as an electrician which would eventually become his career.
After his honorable discharge in 1956 Bill ended up in Portland where he met and married Anna Seibel on January 12, 1957. They moved back to Chicago for a brief time and then returned to Oregon where they made their permanent home in Sandy in the early 1960’s. Bill continued using his electrical skills until his retirement working for Owens Illinois Glass as a plant electrician for over 32 years. Bill and Anna also raised and trained Greyhound dogs on their farm for about10 years during the mid-seventies and eighties.
Bill’s hobbies included fishing, photography and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna; daughters, Annette (Rick) Johnston and Renee Rodden both of Sandy; sons Bob (Laurie), and John Rodden both of Sandy and David (Stacy) Rodden of Greeley, CO; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth and son Bill.
The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Association.
