Gresham resident, William “Bill” Turner died at his home on August 19, 2015. He was 85. Services were held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s name can be made to Aloha High School Softball Scholarship.
William Thomas Turner was born in Oakland, California on May 28, 1930 to John and Naomi (Farnsworth) Turner. Bill was raised in Oakland where he attended school. He spent a few years in the U.S. Navy as a radarman, and then graduated from Stanford University on a basketball scholarship in 1955. After college, Bill worked as a teacher and coach at Stanford University, University of Portland and retired from Aloha High School in 1995.
Bill loved watching his grandchildren participate in sports and school activities, gardening, swimming and collecting and selling sports memorabilia.
Survivors include; son Bill Turner Jr. (Denise) of Beaverton; daughters Michelle Joseph (Brian) and Renee York (Shane) of Sandy; sister Elaine Heinrechson (Bill) of Martinez, CA; grandchildren Andy, Heather, Heidi, Cody, Trevor, Hunter, Emily; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
