Wm “Gary” Newlun passed away May 28, 2022 at OHSU. He was 90 Years old.
William Gary Newlun was born July 23, 1931, to William S. and Mary Ann (Hammia) Newlun, in St. Helens, Oregon. Gary was raised in Yankton and Tenmile area. He went to elementary school at Yankton Grade School and attended High School at Scappoose and Roseburg. In 1970, he moved to the Sandy area.
At the age of 16, Gary got a job as a logger and catskinner, and helped build roads. He then got a job at Henkels and McCoy, where he worked for 39 ½ years. He traveled to Africa and Brazil, while employed there, and had many jobs, such as plow supervisor and working in telecommunications. He retired at the age of 70.
When Gary was at home, he loved landscaping in his yard and tinkering in his shop. He also loved astronomy.
Gary is survived by Ricky Newlun (Fernly, Nv.), Brenda Newlun (Portland, OR.), Jeffrey Newlun (Sandy, OR.), and Teresa Jordan (Manteca, CA.), 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life held June 17, 2022 at Sandy Funeral Home at 1:00p.m.
