She was born, Zadie Marie Haley to William and Versie (Puett) Haley in Kelso, Washington. She was raised in Southwest Washington and graduated in 1945 from Ft. Vancouver High School. Zadie then went to work in the ship yards in Vancouver. She had a friend that worked in the ship yards with her who introduced her to future husband Art Skogan. They were later married on March 2, 1946 in Vancouver. They made their home in Sandy on the family homestead where they began their family. In 1949, they moved to Arizona where Art furthered his education and attended Arizona Bible Institute. After graduating, they returned to Sandy where Art began his Pastoring career at Sandy Baptist Chapel. In 1961, the family moved to Adrian, Oregon where they lived for 8 years until moving to Boring.
Besides fulfilling her duties as a wife and mother, Zadie worked at the Oregon Bulb Farm. In 1976, they returned to Sandy and made their permanent home. The following year, her husband passed away suddenly, but Zadie remained in Sandy and continued working at the Bulb Farm. She retired after 20 years of employment. Zadie then volunteered her time at Kelso Elementary School in the Kindergarten Class every Tuesday morning for 15 years. In 2006, Zadies health began to decline and she moved to Portland where she lived with her daughter Becky and son in law.
Zadie loved spending time at the beach and time with her grandchildren. She was an avid Mariners and Blazer fan. She enjoyed flowers, especially lily’s and lady bugs. Zadie also enjoyed doing word search puzzles and listening to Country Gospel music. Zadie was a dedicated Christian and faithfully attended Lighthouse Community Church for many years.
Surviving are her sons, Richard Skogan of Estacada, Bill Skogan of Sandy, John Skogan of Sandy and Randy Skogan of Portland; her daughters, Nancy Jones of Sandy and Becky Haney of Portland; 22 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Adventist Hospice.
